3-Dimensional Laser Scanning is the process of analyzing a real-world object to collect data on its shape and appearance. The data collected is can then be used to construct digital 3-D CAD Modeling. The purpose of a 3D scanner is to create a 3D model. This 3D model consists of a polygon mesh or point cloud of geometric samples on the surface of the subject. These points can then be used to extrapolate the shape of the subject, a process called reconstruction. The dimensions extrapolated / developed through this process maintain a high tolerance to the original articles. SkyTech Engineering & Development uses the data points to create a Computer Aided Design (CAD) model which can be manipulated for further processing either as a model for Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) or as a baseline to create a similar article using any one of several commercially available programs; Solidworks, AutoCad, etc. |
